British Gas: Britons receive payouts after top-up issues – are you affected? | Personal Finance | Finance

The issue arose when British Gas decided to change top-up providers from Payment to Payzone.

Most customers were informed about the change in December 2019, with a letter containing details about the change in provider, as well as an increase to the minimum top up amount from £1 to £5.

However, some reported being unaware of the change entirely. 

Even where customers were informed, Ofgem, the government regulator for gas and electricity markets in Britain, said this was not sufficient enough time for customers to be able to switch supplier if they were not comfortable with the new agreement.
