Coronavirus latest: The Countess of Wessex makes heartwarming gesture to NHS workers | Royal | News

“She’s got stuck into everything, cooking, prep work and cleaning.

“She’s done it privately, without any fanfare, and the staff think she’s incredible.”

The newspaper says Sophie, husband of Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex – Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest son, helps with preparing, cooking and cleaning up.

Mark Brown, former head chef to Elton John, oversees the operation which delivers lunch and dinner.

Sophie said: “Thank you for going that extra mile and working with the NHS, working within that sector, and supporting what they are all doing.

“I hope you know that what you are doing is incredibly worthwhile, and I am very proud to be your patron, so thank you very much for allowing me to do that.

“And of course, when we do our Thursday clap, you are part of that as well, we think about you and holding you very much close to us.

“One final plea to you all, look after yourself, look after your families and please stay safe.”

Sophie has had several honorary military appointments in both the UK and Canada.

She has also been recognised with the Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest honour Mexico bestows upon foreigners.

Edward and Sophie married in 1999.

They have two children.

The oldest is Lady Louise Windsor, 16 and the youngest is James, Viscount Severn, 12.
