Regardless of the method utilised, households should ensure that it is paid on time as there can be steep costs if it’s missed.

According to the Money Advice Service, falling behind on council tax payments can be a serious concern.

Delays can cause families to fall into worrying debt spirals.

As an example, if a person’s council tax bill was £167 a month, but they missed the year’s first payment that would suddenly generate a debt of £1,671 according to the Money Advice Service.
