Kate Middleton, 38, joined the Royal Family when she married Prince William in 2011. Since then Kate has been known for her fashionable outfits and designer style. But since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they would step back from their royal role and stop using their titles, The Duchess has opted for simple style outfits, cut her hair and worn subtler makeup.
The Duchess of Sussex, 38, left the UK in November for North America, where she lived in Canada with Prince Harry, 35, and Archie, one. They moved to LA last month as they officially stepped back from royal duty.
According to a source close to the Duchess of Cambridge: “The atmosphere since the Sussexes has left has noticeably improved.”
Speaking to The Sun, a royal insider said: “Kate does not feel she has to compete now. She has gone back to a much simpler style. Kate feels very much more relaxed now.”
Apparently, Kate felt the pressure that would naturally come with the consistent comparisons people made between Kate and her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle.
In March, Kate opted for an M&S dusty pink suit whilst on a visit to coronavirus frontline health workers in Croydon. Paired with a simple white blouse and a pair of muted silver BOSS heels, The Duchess’ hair was parted in the middle with a soft blow dry leaving her hair hanging loose at her shoulders.
She decided to keep her makeup natural and light, only opting for a soft brush of blusher across her cheeks, along with a nude lipstick.
Makeup artist Arabella Preston has been using ‘less eye makeup’ as well as paler lip colours and more high street nail varnishes in subtler shades.
The Duchess is also known for re-wearing pieces from her wardrobe, stepping out in a white Reiss coat that she had previously worn before Meghan joined the Royal Family.
During her recent Dublin tour last month she opted for a shorter, sleek hairstyle, compared to her usual long, bouncy hair.
On another outing, Kate was seen wearing jeans on multiple occasions paired with a casual olive-coloured utility jacket from Dubarry of Ireland.
The last time Meghan and Kate were seen together was at the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey in March.
The Duchess of Cambridge was pictured re-wearing a custom coat dress by designer Catherine Walker. She paired the Scarlet dress with matching red Gianvito Rossi heels.
Meanwhile, Meghan wore a bright green Emilia Wickstead dress with a matching fascinator.
The Duchess of Sussex has grabbed attention for her stylish outfit choices, and was even named 2019’s most influential dresser by Last Index, with Katie coming in 11th place.
The former actress has been known for her love of high end fashion and incorporating designers like Givenchy, Chanel and Dior into her wardrobe, which after 22 months as a royal is nearly £1million.
Meghan and Prince Harry were senior royals which meant that they performed many duties on behalf of the Queen.
Now they have resigned, Kate and William are likely to take on extra responsibilities.
Even before Meghan and Harry officially gave up their royal role, Kate and William were appearing at more events.
