Kate Middleton’s engagement ring beats Meghan Markle’s with £400,000 jewel from William

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, 39, were given stunning engagement rings before they married into the Royal Family. While both jewels could fetch a fortune, Grace Kelly’s ring was worth much more, a study revealed.

The jewel was followed by Jackie Kennedy Onassis, whose ring from Aristotle Onassis was estimated to be worth £14,645,860, and Mariah Carey and her £8,167,645 diamond from James Packer.

While Kate and Meghan missed out on a spot in the top 10, their wedding rings were still given a huge valuation.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s sapphire and diamond ring from Prince William beat Meghan’s jewel as it was valued at more than £400,000.

Meghan’s bespoke jewel from Prince Harry was given a hefty price tag of around £167,000.

“It features a 12-carat oval sapphire set in 18k white gold, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds.”

Meghan was given a trilogy ring designed by Prince Harry which featured diamonds from Princess Diana’s collection.

The royal line of succession – who outranks who?

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 72, is currently first-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 36. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.
