Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson is ON after Dana White makes UFC 249 venue admission | UFC | Sport

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s highly anticipated UFC lightweight title defence against Tony Ferguson will be held in a closed arena, UFC president Dana White has confirmed. Fans were fearing that the fight would be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson will finally meet inside the octagon on April 18.

The pair have been slated to fight four times before, but each occasion was cancelled.

And with the coronavirus pandemic currently decimating all major sporting events, it seemed that this fight, too, would be scrapped.

However, White has been unphased about the chances of a cancellation, insisting time and time again that he would do whatever it takes to keep the fight on.

The fight was expected to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, though now it will take place elsewhere.

There had been suggestions that the fight could be held in either Africa or Saudi Arabia, and it is still yet to be confirmed where it will be.

However, speaking in an Instagram Q&A on Monday night, the UFC chief confirmed that he had found a venue.

He went on to state that the organisation would be more than ready to deal with the health and safety implications of holding an event during the global pandemic.
