M4 traffic latest: M4 closed after incident – police ask drivers to find alternate route | UK | News

Thames Valley Police roads policing unit are dealing with an incident that took place along the M4 today.

Officers closed the motorway as they respond to a serious crash.

According to an update from Traffic England the event is expected to clear between 3.15pm and 15.30pm but congestion following the lane closures is not expected to ease until 4.30pm.

Thames Valley Police, fire crews and South Central Ambulance Service, as well as teams from Highways England are all at the scene.


The crash has happened in the roadworks area.

Drivers have been told to allow extra time for their journeys if they are travelling in the area.

A diversion is in place, allowing drivers to leave the motorway at junction 8/9 and follow the route marked with a hollow circle symbol. 

TVP roads policing tweeted: “We are currently dealing with an incident from junction 8/9 – 7 on #M4 #Slough #Maidenhead The motorway is currently closed but we are looking to open lanes 2 & 3 shortly #P6678”

The image shows cars queuing along the M4 as police cordon off the area.

TVP have now issued an update on the closure.

They tweeted: “Lanes 2 and 3 are now running. Please drive carefully through the scene and thank you for your continued patience #P6678 #M4 #Slough #Maidenhead”

Elsewhere there have been severe congestion on the M6 due to flooding 

There are currently delays of 30 minutes along the M6 northbound at junction 19.

On the M6 northbound between junctions J17 and J19 there is severs congestion.

Normal traffic conditions are expected between 2.00 and 2.15PM.
