President Macron also bragged about France’s response to coronavirus and insisted the economy would bounce back and start quickly.

He said: “We were able to improve all of the ICU around France we were able to work with our neighbouring European countries and reroute all of our heavy industry to come up with new forms of solidarity to fight this crisis.

“We have been able to see how resourceful our people are.

President Macron added the plan to open factories and other workplaces would allow the economy the boost to get kickstarted.

Mr Macron said: “Together, with great methodology, we were able to prepare the post lockdown period.

“We have worked tirelessly to come up with a plan that took into account everyone’s concerns so thanks to that bit by bit people were able to go back to work.

He said: “This crisis has shed light on a number of weaknesses.

“One is the fact that we have to source some of our basic materials from other countries.

“In some instances, we have performed better but in others, we have performed worse.”
