Man Utd pushing to sign Juventus star after Maurizio Sarri changes mind | Football | Sport

Manchester United are pushing to sign Juventus star Douglas Costa with Maurizio Sarri starting to come round to the idea of a sale, reports say. The Brazil international has struggled for consistency this season. And the Serie A giants are looking to raise funds for a summer spending spree, with the coronavirus crisis impacting their financial situation at the present time.

Manchester United’s interest in Costa predates the reign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While still playing in Brazil as a teenager he was being eyed by the club, with Sir Alex Ferguson a fan of his flair and trickery.

In the years since Costa has won trophies in Europe with Bayern Munich and Juventus while also making the grade at international level.

And, now, Calcio Mercato claim United are pushing to sign the Samba star ahead of the summer transfer window.

It’s claimed the Juventus manager Sarri was initially willing to keep hold of the winger.

But the Italian is now starting to come round to the idea of a potential departure with Juventus in need of funds to strengthen their squad.

There’s no mention of Costa being used as part of a swap deal involving Paul Pogba, who still wants to leave Old Trafford behind.

But that could be the way of working the situation to their advantage, particularly given Pogba’s desire to embark on a new challenge elsewhere.

Costa has contributed just three assists for Juventus from 14 Serie A matches this season.

But he’s scored twice from three appearances in other competitions.

Last summer the Brazilian admitted that he was open to a move to England – although was still coy on exactly where.

“Today’s world is different to what it was two months ago.

“We’ve got to adjust, adapt, there’s clubs out there struggling more than us financially.

“It’s a new world, and I think the transfer market this summer will be completely different to what anyone thought it would be.”

Were United to sign Costa it would make a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho unlikely.

The England international is a top target for the Red Devils having flourished for the Bundesliga side this season.
