Meghan and Harry hopes to pursue income dashed by an institution ‘unable to accept change’ | Royal | News

The Sussexes have completed their farewell tour of royal engagements as they prepare to embark on a new life in North America. Now it has been revealed that the pair wanted to balance “duties” to the crown and “individual” careers according to Mr Scobie.

He wrote in his column for Harpers Bazaar magazine: “After starting the year with a formal proposal to move into part-time working royal roles, and bring some much-needed privacy and safety to their family life.

“Harry and Meghan’s hopes were quickly dashed by an institution seemingly unable to accept change as a viable option.”

Mr Scobie compared the treatment of Meghan and Harry’s dismissal to that of other “royals.”

“Some royals across Europe—and even other members of the British royal family—have succeeded in balancing duties to the crown and individual careers).”

The couple reportedly did not feel the need to step back was necessary but were forced into due to a lack of “support.”

The royal expert explained: “It’s a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary, but also wasn’t a surprise, given the lack of support they received,”

“they were relentlessly attacked by sections of the British press with almost daily mistruths and hateful commentary.” Alleged Mr Scobie.

He claimed that the couple were left with no choice but to leave the country after “impossible circumstances” during Meghan’s pregnancy.

Social media users posted online their opinion on the latest revelations.

One said: “The Queen asked #MeghanMarkle if she could handle all the attention and pressure before marrying #PrinceHarry. Being in the family comes with responsibilities. The queen told her. Meghan answered yes. Now she is complaining, she had her chance to walk away. But she wanted Royalty.”

Another replied: “We get the #DukeandDuchessofSussex were unhappy but there are 3 sides to every story, I can’t understand how @RoyalFamily went from #FamliyINeverHad to fighting with the queen over the word ‘Royal’ and so much hate #MeghanMarkle #PrinceHarry “

A third exclaimed: “The Queen accepted #MeghanMarkle into the Royal family, this how disrespectful Meghan repays her. It’s obvious who wears the trousers in their marriage and it ain’t #PrinceHarry”

It comes as details of Meghan’s final royal engagement have emerged.

Meghan put on a brave face to meet 22 scholarship students from the Association of Commonwealth Universities at Buckingham Palace.

The Duchess of Sussex took over as royal patron of the ACU from the Queen back in 2019.

Meghan is thought to now keep the organisation as a priority even after March 31 when she officially steps back from royal life.

As well as maintaining her position as Vice President of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

The scholarships provided to ACU students strike a particularly resonate with Meghan, who herself attended Illinois Northwestern University on a scholarship, where she majored in international relations.
