Meghan Markle news: Duchess to hit out at critics as she ‘regains control of her agenda’ | Royal | News

Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 35, stepped down as senior royals in March after announcing plans to become financially independent from the Royal Family. With the new freedom, the Duchess of Sussex is also able to regain control of her own agenda, according to royal experts. Speaking to the Channel 5 documentary, ‘Meghan & Harry: The New Revelations’ biographer Andrew Morton explained how Meghan has always liked controlling her own publicity.

Royal expert Katie Nicoll said: “She is a woman with really strong political opinions.

“I think we will probably see and hear more of these now she is detached from the Royal Family.”

Narrator Jennifer Saayeng continued: “As well as freeing her to speak her mind, her leaving has allowed her to regain control of her own agenda and to hit out directly at her detractors.”

Royal biographer Andrew Morton added: “Meghan has always liked to control her own publicity.”

Royal expert Emily Andrews said: “Through her very popular Instagram account and her blog, The Tig, she was used to being able to control the message.”

Mr Morton said: “I think it’s when things have been out of control that’s what she finds frustrating.”

Meghan and Harry have since moved to LA and have been working on their own projects during the coronavirus pandemic.

They recently volunteered at a back-to-school charity event.

Harry and Meghan, both wearing face coverings, distributed supplies, clothes and nappies at a drive-through run by Los Angeles charity Baby2Baby, which provides basic necessities for families in need.

The couple had been house-hunting for some time after relocating to the US from Canada just before the coronavirus lockdown.

The pair had plunged the royal family into a period of crisis when they announced earlier in the year that they wanted to step back from their positions as senior royals and become financially independent.

A summit of senior royals was convened by the Queen at Sandringham to discuss the issue, with Harry sitting down for talks with his grandmother, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge.

It was later announced they would no longer be working members of the monarchy, would split their time between Canada and the UK, with the majority in North America, and no longer be known as HRH.
