Melania & Ivanka Trump clashed on White House office as Donald elected

A new book out this week has revealed insights into the early days of the Trumps entering the White House. It’s well known that Melania Trump, 50, took her time to move into the new home with President Donald Trump, 74, when he won the election. But in an extract published in The Washington Post, it’s claimed that Ivanka, 38, set her sights on Melania’s space while she was away.

The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump, by Mary Jordan, is set to be published on June 16 by Simon and Schuster.

But in an exclusive extract in The Washington Post, Jordan has revealed there was a battle between Melania and Ivanka over who could use certain areas of the White House.

It’s claimed that Melania Trump stayed in Trump Tower in New York City with her son Barron in order to renegotiate her prenuptial agreements with Donald, before taking on her role as First Lady.

However, Ivanka was quicker to settle in, and apparently set her sights on an office that belonged to Melania.

Jordan claims that Ivanka asked to rename the “First Lady’s Office” the “First Family Office” – but Melania put a stop to it.

It’s thought that the First Lady didn’t want the tradition changed by her stepdaughter, and so Ivanka remained in the West Wing.

But Melania’s delay in moving into her new digs put Ivanka at an advantage, with some of the staff and budgets that would usually be reserved for the First Lady being diverted to the advisor.

However, Melania soon made her mark when she arrived at the White House, Jordan said. “When she and Barron finally moved in, she put an end to the ‘revolving door’ by enforcing firm boundaries.”

However, White House spokesman Judd Deere told Business Insider that the claims were completely unfounded.

“This is totally false,” he commented to Business Insider. “The media is once again running untrue information from anonymous sources and not once did anyone fact check this with the White House or Ivanka Trump.”

Ivanka has played a more prominent role alongside her father’s presidency than Melania.

The businesswoman even had a key role in his campaign, but the new book suggested that Melania has plenty of influence behind the scenes.

A comment from Sean Spicer, the president’s first communications director, described the First Lady as “unbelievably influential”, saying that she will share what she thinks with her husband without directing him on exactly what to do.

In fact, Jordan also claimed that Melania had a lot of sway over her husband’s decisions in the background.

Jordan wrote: “It also became clear that one of the most lethal places to find oneself was in Melania’s crosshairs. As one former White House official said: “People cross Melania at their own risk — and that risk is, ‘off with your head.’ I’m not kidding … You are gone if she doesn’t like you.””

Jordan added that when Melania moved in, she arrived with “no fanfare”, and began “the latest remarkable chapter in her highly improbable life”.

The Express has contacted the White House for comment.
