Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield 3: ‘Good chance’ trilogy is booked by ‘end of week’ | Boxing | Sport

Former undisputed cruiserweight champion Evander Holyfield says there’s a “good chance” he’ll have a trilogy fight with Mike Tyson. Both Holyfield and Tyson are gearing up for sensational returns to the boxing ring at the ages of 57 and 53 respectively.

The former rivals, who fought twice in the 1990s, announced their respective comebacks on social media, where they’ve continued to update fans with their training regimes.

The timing of the pair’s comeback announcements has led many to believe a trilogy fight between the former heavyweight champions is an inevitability.

Holyfield was quizzed about the prospect of sharing the ring with Tyson for a third time during an interview with DAZN, in which he admitted he could renew his rivalry with ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’.

“It’s a good chance,” Holyfield said during an appearance on DAZN’s Face to Face. “Everything’s about the people.

“The people start it up because no one is just doing it for free. What the people want is what the people get.”

Like many others, Holyfield only wants to compete against Tyson in an exhibition bout.

He said: “I want something where there won’t be [a] decision.

“Whatever game he bring, I’ll bring the same thing. It won’t be a decision but we’ll both give our very best to who we are as people.”

As open as he is to renewing his rivalry with ‘Iron Mike’, Holyfield insists he won’t publicly campaign for the fight.

‘The Real Deal’ said: “I don’t mind if he wanted to do it but I’m not going to be the one to say, ‘Let’s do it’ because that’s kind of the bully mentality.”

Holyfield’s comments on a trilogy fight with Tyson came less than 24 hours after the latter revealed he’ll finalise the contract for his comeback fight by the end of the week.

“Na, na we got many guys,” Tyson said during an interview with rapper Lil Wayne on Apple Music’s Young Money Radio“Listen we’ve got so many guys that want to do this man.

“We’re in calls, we’re doing business with guys right now.

“You’re not going to believe the names when the names come out. Sometime this week we’ll have the contract done.

“And whatever money we get, it’s going to somebody else.

“I’m not going to make any money, probably the company, my wife because she’s partners with me, she’ll make some probably. But my money is going.”

Holyfield and Tyson first locked horns with one another in November 1996 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The former cruiserweight king stopped Tyson in the 11th round to claim the WBA heavyweight title.

The pair’s infamous second meeting took place in June 1997 and ended in anarchy as Tyson was disqualified in the third round for biting Holyfield’s right year.

The pair have since made up, although Holyfield recently revealed he wanted bite Tyson back immediately after he was bitten.

“Biting him back,” Holyfield said during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast when asked what his initial reaction to the first was. “I’m serious.

“I was getting ready to bite the daylights out of him. And I was going to bite him in his face. I wasn’t going to wait for the ear. I was going to get the fat stuff.

“You know, when you’re from the ghetto, they say, ‘If you do something, you’ve got to do it worse than what they did [to you]’.

“And I told Mike on a talk show, I said, ‘No, I was pretending like I was hurt real bad. But I was going to trip you up and bite you right in your face’. Everybody knows what I was going to do.”
