Palm Sunday messages: Best quotes and greetings to mark Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday falls on Sunday, April 5 this year and is a Christian feast day which commemorates Jesus entering Jerusalem. Palm branches were placed in his path as he entered the city, before his subsequent arrest on Holy Thursday and crucifixion on Good Friday.

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, which is the last week of Lent.

Lent lasts 40 days and is a period of sacrifice – with those who observe typically abstaining from an item like chocolate, fizzy drinks or snacking.

This represents the 40 days Jesus endured in the desert.

Easter falls next week, Good Friday being April 10, followed by Easter Saturday the next day on April 11, Easter Sunday on April 11, and Easter Monday on April 12.

Processions around or into a church are also common, with the congregation waving palm leaves which are sometimes blessed with holy water by a priest.

A church service is then held to commemorate the day.

As much of the world is on lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak, many cannot attend church for Easter or Palm Sunday.

However, some churches are offering live streams of their services for any wishing to take part.

A quick search of ‘Palm Sunday live stream’ brings up a host of options for those looking to observe the occasion.

One option for those in the UK is to watch Palm Sunday mass at St Joseph’s Church, Pudsey.
