PSG sign Icardi

PSG have confirmed the permanent signing of Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan, after triggering the option in their loan deal.

Icardi joined PSG from Inter on loan last summer and PSG have now paid £45m up front with another £6.2m in add ons to make the move permanent.

He has signed a four year deal with the French giants as Edinson Cavani looks set to leave with his contract expiring this summer.

Coutinho has ‘no chance of joining Arsenal

Philippe Coutinho has ‘no chance’ of signing for Arsenal, according to European football expert Julien Laurens.

“No chance, it’s impossible,” Laurens told ESPN FC.

“I know where it comes from, it comes from France, a newspaper with no credibility whatsoever.

“We could talk about it but there’s no chance.

“It’s not my one and the only thing that could make people doubt slightly is that Coutinho’s agent is obviously Kia Joorabchian, who is very, very good friends and very close to Edu, the Arsenal sporting director, but that’s where it stops.

“Arsenal cannot afford either a transfer fee, his wages, not even a loan, a paying loan or anything like this.

“There were already links last summer with Coutinho.

“Even if Mesut Ozil leaves, they’re not going to replace him with Coutinho.

“So this one I can guarantee you will never happen.”

Coutinho to Chelsea

Chelsea have emerged as favourites to land Philippe Coutinho in a loan deal from Chelsea.

The Blues are keen on a deal for the former Liverpool ace, and Express Sport understand they will have little competition due to the wages and loan fee he would require.

And his agent Kia Joorabchian has made it clear the South American wants to return to the Premier League.

He told Sky Sports: “Everything is a possibility. After the Champions League game he played in England [against Chelsea] we had a long chat about it.

“The Premier League is something that he has always enjoyed playing in, and loved playing in, and would probably love to come back and play in.

“The question is what are going to be the financial conditions of all the clubs, including Barcelona and all the Premier League clubs at the end of this pandemic.”

Harry Wilson to Leeds?

Leeds United need to sign “proven Premier League players” if they get promoted to the top flight and Liverpool’s Harry Wilson would be a good start, according to former Whites defender Alex Bruce.

Wilson has been linked with a move to Elland Road in recent days. The 23-year-old Wales international has spent this season on loan at Bournemouth, scoring seven goals in 23 Premier League appearances to date.

The Liverpool academy graduate is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds but Bruce believes his experience with Bournemouth would make him a good signing for Leeds.

“I think he’s a very good Premier League player, I think he’s a good prospect and he can only get better,” Bruce told Football Insider.

“He’s obviously got great free-kick ability and he’s a huge threat from around the box.

“I think if Leeds are going to get back in the Premier League and dive into the transfer market, they need proven Premier League players.

“I think Harry’s turned into one of those with the clubs he’s been at and the performances he’s given.”

Firmino sounded warning

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino would be most at risk of being replaced if Timo Werner joined the Reds, reckons former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips.

RB Leipzig striker Werner has long been linked with a move to Liverpool and has reportedly held recent conversations with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Asked who would be left out if the German joined Liverpool, Phillips told Football Insider: “You would flip a coin!

“I believe Klopp had a conversation with the player over the Easter weekend so I expect that deal to happen.

“Wow. Who is he going to replace? Who is going to miss out? It would be hard to make an argument for any of them to be dropped.

“It would certainly not be Mane though, he has to play every week and is the best out of the three.

“I could see Werner up top with Mane on one side and Salah on the other. One of those players’ nose is going to be out of joint.

“But Klopp may play all four with Firmino just behind. I would be excited by that front four!”

Chelsea could land Coutinho loan

Chelsea could snap up Philippe Coutinho on loan as Barcelona reportedly face up to the possibility of being unable to sell the Brazilian this summer.

Barcelona’s initial £100m valuation of Coutinho is a big stumbling block for any deal.

They are believed to want the cash in hand and the player off their wage bill in order to facilitate a squad overhaul and a £100m approach for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

And the La Liga champions supposedly even lowered their asking price for Coutinho, demanding just £71m for a player who they splashed £142m on in January 2018.

Reports from Spain are now suggesting Barcelona are considering the possibility of being unable to sell this summer and are instead open to a second consecutive loan deal.

Mundo Deportivo claim the Catalan outfit are demanding a loan fee of €10m (£8.97m) for Coutinho, with any deal including an option to buy after 12 months and requiring the loan club to pay the player’s £250,000-a-week wages in full.

Mbappe ‘doesn’t quite fit’ for Liverpool

Jason McAteer has warned that Kylian Mbappe isn’t the right fit for Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked with the France sensation with his future in Paris uncertain.

But McAteer says Liverpool should look elsewhere.

“You can’t stand still, you need to evolve. From a manager’s perspective, always trying to stay two, three moves ahead,” McAteer told Stats Perform News.

“It’s Jurgen’s job to visualise what he sees next season, preparing for upcoming seasons.

“PSG are a unique club, desperate to win the Champions League, put a fantastic squad together, [but] players want a bigger challenge.

“The Mbappe one for me doesn’t sit quite right – a superstar in his own right, [but] not the right time to come to Liverpool.

“[I’m] not sure he’s Jurgen’s kind of player.”

Harry Kane might win nothing at Man Utd

Harry Kane could join Manchester United and not win anything in the current set up.

Kane has been linked with United after suggesting he may leave Tottenham earlier this season.

But former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes he could join United and still not win anything.

“With Harry Kane, yes, he needs to win trophies, he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League and he’s Spurs’ best player,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.

“But I’m a little bit on the fence with saying ‘you’ve got to leave, you’ve to win trophies if you’re a top player’.

“It’s also about leaving a legacy in the game.

“For me, there are so many brilliant players who haven’t won loads of trophies but have left a legacy [at a club] that lasts a lifetime.

“If Harry Kane leaves [Tottenham] it might not work out. He might go to Man United and he might not win anything.

“He could win something at Spurs but even if he doesn’t he’s going to be regarded as one of the best and most loyal footballers to have ever been at that club and that will last a lifetime.

“It’s not just about ‘Oh I’ve got to go and win trophies’.”

Bayern eye Man City swap deal

Bayern Munich are prepared to offer Lucas Hernandez as part of the deal to sign Leroy Sane this summer.

The German champions are keen to add the City ace Sane as their marquee signing this summer.

And, according to Bayern are ready to send Hernandez the other way to seal the deal.

Bayern had tried to offer a lowball offer to City for Sane after the financial impact of the coronavirus, and with him having been out injured since the start of the season.

But City are refusing to budge on their valuation of the winger, and now Bayern could offer up a player as part as part of the deal.

Man Utd’s Sancho concern

Manchester United are concerned about how it will look if they break their transfer record on Jadon Sancho immediately after the coronavirus.

United have been looking at Sancho as their star signing for the summer, and will have to pay over £100m to sign him from Borussia Dortmund.

But they are worried about how that would look with other clubs suffering financially.

Sancho would become the most expensive British player of all time should he make the move this summer.

United were expected to have a big summer this window but are also facing the prospect of losing money due to the virus.

They have also been linked with Jude Bellingham and a new striker.

Liverpool’s Timo Werner request

Liverpool have spoken to Timo Werner and laid out their intentions of signing him, despite talk they won’t trigger his release clause this summer.

Werner has a release clause of £52m which is active until June 15, and it looks unlikely that Liverpool will trigger it before then.

But it actually drops in value next summer, so there is a chance Liverpool could try and negotiate a lower fee for the RB Leipzig man.

And according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have been in contact with RB Leipzig.

He says they told the German club two weeks ago that they want more time to sign Werner.

Chelsea decision

Chelsea have decided to sign Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal if they miss out on Jason Sancho.

Sancho looks set to join Manchester United if he moves this summer, and according to Goal Chelsea are eyeing the 21-year-old Nigeria ace should the miss out.

Frank Lampard is keen to add to his squad this summer as he looks to build a team capable of competing with Liverpool and Manchester City.

He missed out on transfers in the last two windows after the club were banned from signing players.

So Chelsea are expected to have a busy window when it does finally open up again.

Birmingham boss on Bellingham transfer

Birmingham are expecting increased interest in Jude Bellingham when Championship football returns. The midfield ace has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund after impressing with the Blues.

Bellingham, 16, has been dubbed a ‘generational talent’ and was even lavished with praise by Rio Ferdinand.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring him into his squad for next season as he plans for the future.

And Birmingham boss Pep Clotet thinks speculation will increase as football returns and more clubs get to have a look at Bellingham.

“Because of the current situation we have now, we possibly think we’ll be competing and playing games until July,” Clotet told Sky Sports.

“We are very focused on the present and there’s so much uncertainty in this situation that it’s very difficult to start thinking about next season.

“What I’m very happy about now is that Jude is here with us and all the players are here with us as well. We focus on that really, but I understand there’s going to be more speculation when the games do come back.

“As a head coach, I don’t deal with transfers, it’s the club. But I can imagine the situation has all the clubs very worried about how to finish this season and what impact this season has into next season.

“That can change a lot of the future of the clubs. Possibly it’s going to be a busy summer, possibly it’s going to be less busy, we still don’t know what impact it will have.”
