Hello, and welcome to Express Sport’s live coverage of UFC on ESPN 9: Overeem vs Harris. The promotion’s third event during the coronavirus lockdown takes place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

  • Topping the bill is a heavyweight match-up between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris, a pivotal match-up in the UFC’s 265lb division.
  • In the co-main event of the evening, former strawweight title challenger Claudia Gadelha will lock horns the ever-active Angela Hill.
  • Long-time lightweight standout Edson Barboza will make his featherweight debut against the in-form Dan Ige.
  • Follow all the live action and reaction from UFC on ESPN 9 below.

UFC Fight Night Live – 03:20am – Fight of the Night alert

Up next is the featherweight debut of perennial lightweight contender Edson Barboza, who will make his 145lb bow against Dan Ige.

Ige enters the contest on the back of a five-fight win streak, while Barboza will look to snap a two-fight losing streak.

UFC Fight Night Live – 03:17am – Jotko gets it done

Krysztof Jotko has just cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Eryk Anders. Anders tried his utmost to get the fight to the ground but was unable to implement his game plan.

UFC Fight Night Live – 02:54am – We return to the middleweight division

A middleweight bout between Eryk Anders and Krysztof Jotko is currently on deck. Both men enter this contest on the back of two-fight win streaks.

UFC Fight Night Live 02:38am – What are these judges smoking?

Song Yadong has just been gifted a decision victory over Marlon Vera, who, quite rightly, was fuming with the verdict.

Despite Vera clearly taking the last round-and-a-half, the judges somehow scored the fight 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 in his Yadong’s favour.

That’s another bad decision from the judges. Let’s hope it’s the last one.

UFC Fight Night Live – 02:28am – Two rounds down, and Yadong is in the ascendency

This fight hasn’t disappointed, with both men eager to establish their dominance by taking the centre of the Octagon and dictating the pace of the contest.

I had Yadong winning the first round-and-a-half. Vera may have done enough to take the second stanza, so it could be all to play for in the third.

UFC Fight Night – 02:00am – The main card is upon us

UFC on ESPN’s main card is about to get underway. And this card promises to be a good one.

Kicking things off is a featherweight showdown between Song Yadong and Marlon Vera, which promises to be an absolute backburner.

UFC Fight Night – 01:46am – Baeza gets stops Brown

After a back-and-forth first round, which had several momentum swings, Baeza stops Brown in his tracks early in the second round with a slick counter left hook.

Brown came into aggressive and with his head on the centre line, which Baeza made him pay for. That’s 9-0 now for Caramel Thunder, who looks like a real prospect in the welterweight division.

UFC Fight Night – 01:27am – Time for the Immortal

Matt Brown vs Miguel Baeza is about to go down. For those of you unfamiliar with who Matt Brown is, ‘The Immortal’ is one of the most savage fighters to have ever graced the Octagon.

As ever, expect fireworks.

UFC Fight Night – 01:17am – And just like that, it’s over

Kevin Holland has just made light work of Anthony Hernandez. Trailblazer came out like a bat out of hell, landing a swift one-two on Hernandez. Holland followed that up with a nasty elbow and a perfectly placed knee to the body, that took the wind out of and felled Hernandez.

Holland didn’t waste the opportunity to finish the fight, pouring on the ground and pound before the referee called a half to proceedings.

UFC Fight Night – 01:10am – Middleweights on deck

We move to the middleweight division for a middleweight showdown between prospects Anthony Hernandez and Kevin Holland.

This fight will be a clash of Dana White Contenders Series alumni and is one I’m very much looking forward to.

UFC Fight Night – 01:05am – A valiant effort from the newboy

Despite taking his clash with Giga Chikadze on two days’ notice, Irwin Rivera gave a stellar account of himself. He was, however, well and truly picked apart by his Georgian opponent, who expertly utilised his reach advantage to maintain his distance and land counter strikes.

Unsurprisingly, the judges the score contest 30-26, 30-27, 30-27 in Chikadze’s favour.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:45 – Another featherweight match-up is on deck

Up next is a 145lb clash between decorated kickboxer Giga Chikadze and UFC newcomer Irwin Rivera.

Former Titan FC bantamweight champion Rivera only got the call to take this fight on Thursday following Mike Davis’ withdrawal from the card. Talk about a baptism of fire in your Octagon debut.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:38am – The Train gets it done

Nate Landwehr has just had his hand raised after an all-out war with Darren Elkins, with the judges scoring the contest 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 in his favour.

I had Elkins winning the final stanza, but I think his crimson red face did him no favours when the judges were scoring the bout.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:27am – What a war!

Two rounds in and this 145lb bout has been nothing short of a backburner. For me, it’s one round a piece. Elkins took the first and Landwehr the second.

The judges, however, may see it differently as Elkins has two nasty cuts and is bleeding profusely.

Bring on round three.

UFC Fight Night Live – 00:14am – To the featherweight division we go

Up next is a men’s featherweight clash between Darren Elkins and Nate Landwehr. Elkins is never, and I mean never, in a boring fight.

This should be a good one, folks.

UFC Fight Night Live: – 23:58am – Another quick finish

Cortney Casey makes light work of Mara Romero Borella. In her return to the flyweight division, Casey bags a quick first-round submission via a nasty armbar.

An impressive performance from Casey, who looks markedly healthier at 125lbs.

UFC Fight Night Live – 23:50am – We move to the flyweight division

Up next is a women’s flyweight bout between Cortney Casey vs Mara Romero Borella.

Casey will be looking to bounce back from her decision loss to Cynthia Calvillo in February 2019.

UFC Fight Night Live – 23:38pm – It’s over!

The Rodrigo Nascimento stream train just keeps on rolling. The Brazilian has just registered a second-round submission victory over Don’Tale Mayes, whom he submitted with a rear-naked choke.

What a way to mark your UFC debut.

UFC Fight Night Live – 23:36m – We are live!!

UFC on ESPN 9’s prelims are underway, folks. Currently on deck is a heavyweight bout between Rodrigo Nascimento and Don’Tale Mayes.

We’re in a for a long, but entertaining, night of fights. So buckle up, grab some popcorn and enjoy the fisticuffs.
