Conor McGregor coach talks up Justin Gaethje fight

Conor McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh has revealed he’d like for ‘The Notorious’ next fight to come up against in-form lightweight title contender Justin Gaethje.

“At the moment, definitely top of the list for me would be Justin Gaethje,” the SBG Ireland head coach told Gareth A Davies. “I think it is a very interesting, stylistic match-up. Justin really believes in his striking ability, really believes in his power. He also has a quick-ish stop of Cerrone.

“I think there would be some great exchanges, a lot of forward pressure from Gaethje and Conor thrives under that so in the summer or something like that, that’s what I’d love to see. We know Gaethje won’t take a back step and Conor will meet him in the middle, it would be fireworks.”

Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier III hint

Former UFC light-heavy and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has appeared to hint his trilogy fight with currently 265lb champion Stipe Miocic has been finalised.

‘DC’ dropped the hint on Tuesday night, tweeting alongside a love heart eyed emoji: “Thank you @stipemiocic!”

Cormier and Miocic’s series is currently level at 1-1, with the former winning their first clash at UFC 226 and the latter their rematch at UFC 241.

Brian Ortega issues apology

Former UFC featherweight title contender Brian Ortega has apologised for slapping Jay Park, the part-time translator for Chang Sung Jung.

“On May 9, 2018, Jay Park signed The Korean Zombie to a management contract under AOMG Entertainment, of which Park is the CEO, and soon after the trash-talking began.

“When I finally made it to Korea for the press conference, TKZ approached me with his translator (a real one, not Jay Park) and said ‘I want to apologize for the trash-talking, it was my management that wants to do it to promote the fight’.” Brian Ortega wrote.

“I accepted his apology, shook his hand and we had a great press conference. Soon after I tore my knee, and the fight got cancelled. Four weeks ago, The Korean Zombie and Jay Park went on Ariel’s show and said I dodged the fight.

“‘Dodging’ and ‘injury’ are two separate things, and since I already knew JP was the one writing the script, that’s when I welcomed him to the fight game and warned him to watch his mouth.

“On Saturday night, I slapped three people at the same time. I apologize for slapping the ‘translator’, I apologize for slapping the ‘K-Pop Star’, but I don’t apologize for slapping the ‘instigator’.”

Ortega followed up that apology with a more heartfelt one, saying: “I want to officially apologize to JPark for Saturday night, when Zombie is ready we can fight.”
