UK coronavirus death toll 15 percent higher than previously reported | UK | News

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published data showing 6,235 people in England and Wales had died from coronavirus by April 3 when deaths in the community were taken into account. This is 15 percent higher than the figures previously reported.

The ONS said a total of 406 deaths involving Covid-19 in England and Wales occurred outside of hospitals in the week leading up to April 3.

Nick Stripe, head of health analysis and life events at the ONS said: “The 16,387 deaths that were registered in England and Wales during the week ending 3 April is the highest weekly total since we started compiling weekly deaths data in 2005.”

The UK’s official death toll as of April 13 is 11,329.
