The Winds of Winter is a book many people have been desperately waiting for. The A Song of Ice and Fire series is only five books into a seven-book collection, meaning fans are hoping to see the new book soon. Some have recently remembered how Martin made a promise to fans which will ensure the book comes out sooner rather than later.
On his website, Not A Blog, George RR Martin regularly updates fans with news at to his new releases, whether that is A Song of Ice and Fire related or based in others of his works.
Not long ago, he even shared with fans what he was up to in lockdown, which left many of them very excited.
He posted: “If there is a silver lining in these clouds, this will give me more time to finish WINDS OF WINTER.
“I continue to write every day, up here in my mountain fastness.”
This excited fans, however, others may remember some even more exciting news, which was that George RR Martin promised to fans he would present the manuscript at WorldCon at the end of July.
He was named the Master of Ceremonies at Worldcon, a science fiction convention which takes place annually in countries all over the world.
This year an airline even offered Martin free air-fare to their country so he could finish The Winds of Winter in peace.
However, in a blog post, Martin replied to this, saying: “If I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon 2020, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.
Another fan, commenting on this tweet, replied: “I wish I could live life with the hope & optimism of someone who still thinks grrm will ever finish writing winds of winter”
While some fans may not be as hopeful about the book, others will be hoping the book will be available this year, even if it may be later in the year than previously thought.
Many have also been trying to work out which storylines could appear in the book – and which may be cut out.
With the final series of Game of Thrones being so controversial, Martin will likely have this in mind as he puts pen to paper.
