World’s favourite film franchise is Lord of the Rings beating Star Wars and MCU | Films | Entertainment

Over the last century, there have been some huge film franchises. From James Bond and Star Wars to Harry Potter and the MCU, many are based on much-loved stories. Now the world’s favourite has been determined by a detailed analysis based on production budget, box office earnings, IMDb score, metascore, award nominations and award wins of high-earning film franchises.

And according to SlotsOnlineCanada’s research, Peter Jackson’s adaptations of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit make the Middle-earth series the world’s favourite film franchise.

Coming out at No 1 makes a lot of sense considering the critical and financial success of the six fantasy films.

Together they made an incredible $5.85 billion at the global box office alone.

Marvel fans may be scratching their heads at that one.

After all, Hawkeye is probably the least popular of the six original Avengers considering he doesn’t have any superpowers and hasn’t played a huge role in the MCU.

Nevertheless, the films he has appeared in, and for however long, were very successful and critically acclaimed hence he came out at No 1.

Meanwhile, Lord of the Rings recently had an incredible virtual reunion just last week.

Josh Gad managed to reunite Jackson and the main cast for his charity Reunited Apart YouTube series.

Taika Waititi popped up near the end to test them all on their knowledge of Lord of the Rings.

And it was here that Jackson revealed The Beatles once tried to make a film adaptation.

However, having approached JRR Tolkien the answer was a “no”.
